The seventh annual festival will feature critically acclaimed films and documentaries that put a spotlight on some of the most talented filmmakers and actors of Polish origin.

The festival and not-for profit organization “Ekran” has grown significantly over the past several years bringing some of the most significant players in the Polish film industry to Toronto on an annual basis. Watching Polish movie offers a unique film experience, the movies are raw, and the artistry takes centre stage. All of the films include English subtitles so that everyone can enjoy these exclusive screenings.

The festival opens with “Body” a film directed by Malgorzata Szumowska starring Janusz Gajos and Maja Ostaszewska.  “Body” received the top prize at the 40th annual Polish Film Festival in Gdynia and Szumowska has received numerous prestigious awards for the film including the Silver Bear for Best Director at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival. Toronto Mayor John Tory will be part of the opening remarks.

Ekran is jam packed with Polish theatre gems including “Jurek” a documentary about a world famous alpine and high altitude climber Jerzy Kukuczka; a Canadian produced comedy “Ben’s at Home” by Polish director Mars Horodyski; and award winning short films ‘Matka’, ‘Olena’, ‘Real Honey’ and ‘Them’ by Gdynia Film School graduates.

The closing night feature “Warsaw 44”, will take the audience back to 1944 Nazi occupied Polish capital and tells the story of the Warsaw uprising from a youthful perspective. Last year ‘Warsaw Uprising’ opened the festival to a sold out cinema. The director of both films Jan Komasa will be available for a Q&A following the screening. “Warsaw 44”, is considered the most important Polish production of 2014.

Screenings take place at the Revue Cinema – 400 Roncesvalles Ave, as  well as a selection of free screenings at the High Park Library on November 14th.
