Carole Pope and band make a rare appearance at Hugh’s Room Live in Toronto’s west end on May 9th, 2018.

A trailblazer for sure, Carole Pope is an agent provocateur pushing the boundaries of sexuality, sexual politics, and the status quo, making you think and dance at the same time. Her work has been recognized with three Juno Awards, multiple independent music awards, a Genie Award, and album sales include 4 gold, 1 platinum and 1 double platinum. She was short listed for the 2016 Polaris Prize.

Carole’s latest CD, Music for Lesbians explores the funny tragic things about being a lesbian. Contributors include Peaches, Alain Johannes and Rob Preuss (Spoons). She toured with David Bowie and performed at Roskilde, World Pride, Fashion Cares 25 with Elton John, Luminato, and Pride festivals around the world.

Not one for resting on her laurels Carole Pope is currently working on a musical with Kate Rigg. She has appeared in, or contributed music to, countless film and television shows . Her seminal band, Rough Trade was inducted into the Canadian Music Week Indy Hall of Fame in 2007.

BUZZ Exclusive Q&A

You’re working with the talented Clara Venice from Toronto on a video for your recent single, This Is Not A Test. Do you have a timeline on when this will be completed?
This is Not a Test video with be released May 8….and here it is, co-written by Toronto‘s Clara Venice – A Love song for the Apocalypse, Save the Earth, graffiti, power to the people, Animation, theremin, LGTBQ. The director Jason Mark, used a wall as a backdrop incorporating graffiti-like images that come to life to send a message of people standing up, fighting back, and finding joy in the knowledge that we’ll win.
You’re currently in production of a musical in collaboration with Kate Rigg, that’s tentatively titled Attitude. What can you share with us about that in terms of what it will be about, any anticipated opening dates and location?
The musical is not in production. we are submitting it to producers and directors. don’t want to share details
yet.
Any other projects, musically or otherwise, that you’re working on? 
I’m working to finish and release a four song EP this summer.
Finally, what some (many) would like to know. Any chance of a Rough Trade reunion with Kevan in the future?
No rough trade reunions in the near future.
