Rewind Tour, with Aqua, Prozzak, and Whigfield – Sept 8, 2018 (Toronto)
Danish super group AQUA are thrilled to be heading out for their first ever Canada tour this September, and Toronto queers couldn’t be happier! Facebook and Twitter are flaring up with excitement for this triple-bill, which looks like it’s an immediate sell out for 90s nostalgia music fans who were quick to get tickets. Hopefully a second date will be added to accommodate the demand. There is a London, Ontario date on September 16th showing tickets still available for those willing to do the road trip. Also, tickets are still available for the other Canadian dates on the tour as well.
Joining them will be Canadian favourites Prozzäk and ‘Saturday Night’ hitmaker Whigfield. This killer 90’s line up will be performing 7 special shows across the nation from 8th to 16th September in Toronto, Abbotsford, Grand Prairie, Calgary, Enoch, Winnipeg and London. Each stop on the tour will be bringing fans back to the era of Video Countdown’s and Highschool dance parties with a Much Video Dance to get the party started!
The Toronto tour kick-off at RBC Echo Beach is in proud partnership with Pride Toronto with a portion of the proceeds from each ticket being donated to the organization to assist in their ongoing efforts within the LGBTQ community. Prozzäk arrived on the scene in 1998, and a Canadian musical phenomenon was born. The animated duo Simon and Milo was the brainchild of Jay Levine and James Bryan McCollum, two members of the critically acclaimed multi-platinum act The Philosopher Kings. Prozzak’s debut “Hotshow” went 4 times platinum (400,000), producing chart topping videos, including 2 MuchMusic number ones (“Sucks to be you”, and “Strange Disease”), as well as being nominated for 5 Juno awards. Prozzäk also made an impact internationally, in the US, where the video for “Sucks to be you” charted on MTV2, and had top 40 hits in Spain (“Hotshow”), and Turkey (“Strange Disease”). In 2000, Prozzäk released their second album, “Saturday People”, which also went platinum and was nominated for a Juno award for best pop album. In 2017, the duo released “Forever 1999”, their first studio album in over a decade. Their fans embraced new songs like “Love Me Tinder” and “Love Fools Anonymous”. Prozzak performed for nearly 10,000 fans on their Canadian tour from Ottawa to Victoria later that year.
Sannie Carlson, better known by her infamous stage name Whigfield, is internationally celebrated for her catalogue of euro pop hits that have sold millions of records worldwide. In 1994 she gained a place in the Guinness Book of Records with the song ‘Saturday Night’ as the first artist to go straight to number one in the UK singles chart with a debut single. Her debut album Whigfield 1 went Gold in Canada, Philippines, India and Platinum in South Africa, featuring hits ‘Another Day’, ‘Think of You’ and ‘Big Time’.
