After garnering 15.6 million viewers who recently watched the debut presentation of Dolly Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors,” NBC is offering another chance to watch the TV movie with an encore special presentation Christmas Day at 9pm EST.

“I hoped to bring some families together so they could sit and watch a movie like this. I really wanted to celebrate the people, my whole family, who made me who and what I am today. I’m so blessed and thankful for everyone who watched and I hope this story reaches many, many more when NBC shows it Christmas night,” said Parton.

This soon to be holiday classic ranks as the most-watched film on the four broadcast networks in more than six years, with 13 million viewers during the initial December 10th broadcast. The film is set in the Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains in 1955. It is neither a biopic nor musical about Parton’s whole life and performing career, but rather a family-oriented faith-based story about the incidents in her and her family’s life around the time she was 9 years old.

Parton adds, “For years I have wanted to make a movie based on a song that tells a true story from my childhood and also shows my family in a good light. I wanted to honor my father and mother and show the kind of people and family we were and are. My parents are gone but I’m hoping that my brothers and sisters will be proud of how I’ve tried to portray our family. Don’t we all want our people to be proud of us? I am very proud of my family and wanted to show how love and faith can carry us through any hardships in life. And believe me, we’ve had plenty of them.”

 Also, I don’t know about you, but for a long time I’ve been missing shows that are family and faith-based. Not since “The Walton’s” and “Little House on the Prairie” have I seen much about family and their struggles to overcome. I’m very proud to have worked with Sam Haskell, my partner and executive producer on this movie. He is so talented and devoted and loves this project as I do. This is the first of many movies that we hope to produce for TV that are based on my stories or songs. “Jolene” is the next one up, to hopefully air next year, but none will ever be as personal as “Coat of Many Colors.”
