Toronto City Council approved Pride Toronto’s 2018 funding request for $260,000. Pride Toronto stated they were pleased that the City of Toronto continues to support their festival, one of the largest in North America. Thanks to the support of the City of Toronto, the 2018 Pride Toronto Festival will be bigger and better than ever.

“Thank you to the City Council for approving our request. This funding will assist us in our efforts to create a festival that will not only celebrate our communities’ diversity, but also provide a safe space in which the LGBTQ+ can be represented” says Pride Toronto Executive Director Olivia Nuamah. “These funds will support us to celebrate the strength and resilience of this city. We will be re-introducing a minute of silence, introducing a Health and Wellness Zone, we have extended the footprint and will be presenting a range of Human Rights panels celebrating 35 years of AIDS Activism.”

The festival will be extended from Carlton St. to Dundas St. along Church St. to allow more vendors, stages, artists and community organizations to participate. Without the valued support of the Toronto City Council, much of this would not be possible. Pride Toronto is dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ community in Toronto and to creating a safe and inclusive city. We are honoured for the support of the Toronto City Council in working towards these goals and look forward to continuing to do so in the years to come.
