ACT, Canada’s largest direct service HIV/AIDS organization, will host the 30th AIDS Walk Toronto on Sunday, September 16th (10 am – 3 pm). Over 1,000 walkers and participants will gather at Nathan Phillips Square, the Walk’s original home in 1989, to raise funds and help provide essential support services for men, women
and young people living with HIV or at increased risk.

“Thanks to our participants and sponsors, ACT continues to promote overall health, build community and work towards reaching our collective goal of zero new HIV infections,” says John Maxwell, Executive Director at ACT. “With community support, ACT is able to continue providing free programs and services that respond to the changing needs of those most impacted by HIV in our city.”

This year, AIDS Walk Toronto is commemorating 30 years of the Walk by featuring some of the faces and stories of people impacted by HIV and AIDS, and who have been part of the movement. This campaign shines a light on some of the individuals that make up our community and continue to make a difference.

Despite remarkable progress in the areas of treatment and prevention, someone is diagnosed with HIV every three hours in Canada, with over one person per day being diagnosed in Toronto. HIV regrettably remains a social illness, with stigma impacting almost all who are affected. There are over 75,000 people living with HIV in Canada, with an estimated 9,000 living in Toronto.

Onstage entertainment will include our host and LA-based comedian Casey Ley and performances by Toronto’s own KAPRI and drag queens Sofonda Cox and Jada Hudson.
