Chicho, an ashamed-queer-Catholic-man-boy from Venezuela, hilariously attempts to feel beautiful despite his warring identity politics. In this wildly entertaining exploration of a diasporic experience, CHICHO meticulously presents the disparity between his own Queer-ibbean coming-of-age journey in Canada and the worsening socio-economic crisis in Venezuela.

Playwright/Performer: Augusto Bitter

CHICHO – On until March 24, 2019

Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace, 16 Ryerson Ave.

Sunday March 17 (post-show)

After the performance you are welcome to stay and take part in our  Q&A with some of the cast and/or creative team. Q&A’s are a chance  for you to ask questions or just find out more about the play or the  process of creating the work.

Relaxed Performance Sunday March 10th, March 17th & March 24th @ 2:00pm

These special performances are open to everyone, but the environment is specifically adapted to relax the tradition rules around silence, darkness, and stillness in the audience. They are designed to benefit individuals living with autism or sensory and communication disorders, parents with babes in arms, and anyone who would welcome a more relaxed environment at the theatre. Patrons are allowed to leave their seats and return to them in the middle of the show, the house lights are kept on at a dim setting, loud sound cues are toned down, special effects are explained before the show starts, and all cast and crew members are introduced at the top of the show.

Audio Described Performance Saturday March 23rd @ 2:00pm

Audio Described Performances offer partially sighted and blind patrons a companion piece to the shows delivered through an earpiece and a small receiver. The Audio Described Performance will outline the events happening on stage – including relevant sets, costumes, and non verbal actions – in a delivery style that matches the tone and presentation of the play. The scripts for the Audio Described Performance are developed in conjunction with the creative teams at Theatre Passe Muraille, with the goal of giving visually impaired audience members a more immersive experience.
