Queer Ontario, an LGBTQ-specific non-profit, announced that it will be hosting a film screening and premiere of ‘Queer Edge: From Gay to Queer Liberation’ directed by Dr. Nick Mulé as part of its 10th Anniversary celebration. The event including the screening will take place at the Tranzac Club on May 15 from 7 PM to 11 PM.

“Over its first decade, Queer Ontario has spent much of its time and resources in addressing concerns within the LGBTQ communities as with mainstream society,” director and founder of Queer Ontario Dr. Nick Mulé said, “Providing a voice in this province that celebrates the diversity LGBTQs can bring to society in contrast to the push for acceptance and respectability is very important to the work of Queer Ontario. Serious liberation work involves capturing those that society does not readily accept or respect.”

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Queer Ontario, Dr. Mulé, and Queer Ontario’s Steering Committee plan to screen ‘QueerEdge: From Gay to Queer Liberation’ with the intent to speak to the divides in the LGBTQ movements and the importance of continuing with a critical, progressive, sex-positive politic of liberation that Queer Ontario is founded upon and operates from. The film interviews over 30 academics, activists, and artists who provide in-depth insights on their queer liberation sensibilities, contributing to a critical socio-political analysis of gender and sexual politics.

The feature documentary, ‘QueerEdge: From Gay to Queer Liberation’ links the principles and tenets of gay liberation in the Stonewall era to today’s queer liberation movements. The interviews, spanning historical and contemporary LGBTQ issues, reveal internal politics, provide a critical analysis of the mainstreaming effects of LGBTQ equality movements vs. the progressive, sex-positive views of the queer liberation movements, and exposes an internal divide between those who are content with equality and those who continue to fight for liberation.
