Everyone’s favorite spooky family is back in the animated comedy sequel, The Addams Family 2. In this all new movie we find Morticia and Gomez distraught that their children are growing up, skipping family dinners, and totally consumed with “scream time.” To reclaim their bond they decide to cram Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester and the crew into their haunted camper and hit the road for one last miserable family vacation. Their adventure across America takes them out of their element and into hilarious run-ins with their iconic cousin, IT, as well as many new kooky characters. What could possibly go wrong?

SNAPSHOT REVIEW

I’ll begin with a full disclosure. I’m not a fan of animated movies, and I didn’t see the original movie before watching this one. Guess what? I  really quite enjoyed it, and got a great appreciation of the work that goes into not only the animation work, but casting the write actors to do the character voices. I couldn’t stop myself from picturing the real actors while watching the characters on screen. And what a cast it was, with Oscar Issac and Charlize Theron playing the leads of Gomez and Morticia, along with other heavyweights like Better Midler (Grandma), Bill Hader (Cyrus Strange), and Snoop Dogg as the gangasta, It!

The family decides it’s time to take a holiday across America, which begins in Niagara Falls. When Morticia asks Wednesday what she’s doing, she replies “I’m staring at Canada”. In another CanCon reference, there’s a scene where Gordon Lightfoot’s “Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald” plays for an extended period of time. It joins the crew in San Antonio, arriving decked and bejeweled as a hip hop rapper.

The hilarity and one-liners continue throughout, from Wendy attending a school talent contest, and stating “I’ve been social distancing since birth,” one of several references to the pandemic. The soundtrack itself is amazing, going all over the map from “Ace of Spades” to “I Will Survive”, and of course Snoop Dogg. The family also discusses the reasoning behind the extra “D” in Addams. Gomez says it stands for “Different”, where as Wendy thought it was for “Dismemberment”. The real reason though is that the creator of the original characters was Charles Addams. The movie closes with everyone having so much fun, that they must do it all again, but worldwide! Sounds like perhaps the inkling to The Addams Family 3?
