Canadian web-series, Gay Mean Girls, premieres its second season on YouTube on Feb. 24, 2023.  Originally based on a viral short film by Heyishi Zhang that amassed 3.5 million views in 2015, the web-series premiered its first season in 2019 to a sold-out screening at TIFF Next Wave

In Season 2, the popular web-series will feature an all new cast, all POC leads, and an all new story tackling corruption within social justice spaces and staying true to yourself in a performative world.

Following the story of young queer women and non-binary folks, Season 2 follows student journalist Savannah Lin who becomes embroiled in the complicated dynamics of a queer POC “safe space.” This season challenges what family means to young, marginalized communities and how it can change as you learn to be true to yourself.

Season 2 of the web-series Gay Mean Girls premiered at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Jan. 18, 2023, followed by a full season release on February 24 via KindaTV on Youtube. All Season 1 episodes are available to stream, so it’s easy to catch up before launching into Season 2.

Created by queer writer/director Heyishi Zhang, cinematographer Hayley Wong with lead actors Jenna Phoa and Robyn Matuto.
