Errant Records launches as a trans-owned, queer run Canadian music label and management company – Launch party Sept 9, 2025 (Toronto)
Entertainment attorney and business strategist, Dani Oliva, known for his work with GRAMMY winners, Billboard #1 songwriters, and leading music companies, has officially launched Errant Records, a trans-owned, LGBTQ+ run Canadian music label and management company dedicated to cultivating groundbreaking talent and delivering truly artist-first representation.
Rooted in Canada, but with a powerful global reach, Errant Records champions fresh sounds, diverse voices, and bold perspectives. Backed by industry leaders David Massey (former President of Arista Records) and Shane Carter (current President of Sony Music Canada), the label is distributed by The Orchard.
With over 20 years of experience in entertainment business development, Oliva has advised artists, creatives, and companies on critical legal and strategic matters including intellectual property, business development, visas, and right of publicity. As the first openly transgender executive at a major music company, Dani’s career has broken barriers while championing artist empowerment.
Oliva currently leads Oliva Law Group, P.C., an entertainment law firm, where he helps clients clarify their goals, access key industry resources, and navigate the often complex path to success. The launch of his label marks a natural extension of that mission. “Errant Records is a Canada-based record label with the purpose of assisting artists in global relationships and strategy to help them actualize their version of success,” shares Oliva.
“I felt an affinity to music and the folks that make it because it expanded my world-view; Wanting to be closer to music-makers and album projects, I started working in music marketing for labels in my teens. After various jobs in music: marketing, venue promotion, management and going to law school; In 2012 I asked Hill Kourkoutis if she wanted to start a record label with me, and she kindly said, “I don’t know how to do that!” I wasn’t happy with label options for clients and wanted to create a label centered around music artist services. Over the decade since that conversation, I made a personal commitment to learn what artists need to feel supported and to develop global relationships to help them.”
Oliva continues, “After working with labels and global music companies representing artist’s interests, and also being VP of business and legal affairs for Venice Music, I knew I had the experience to make the label dream a reality. David Massey called Shane Carter, who extended his resources with The Orchard team and that’s how Errant Records came to be.
Errant Records is a record label with a home-grown heart.” The new label and management company will focus on developing innovative talent and delivering long-term career strategy, combining Dani’s legal experience and background with a deep understanding of the entertainment ecosystem.
The label’s first signings include Haitian-Canadian powerhouse singer-songwriter Charmie, who recently wrote on GRAMMY Award winning artist Nelly Furtado’s latest album ‘7’ and 24-year-old rising star Toronto native GUS who has shared the stage with the likes of Johnny Orlando and LØLØ.
On the management side, Errant Records’ clients include, Los Angeles-based vocalist, producer, and composer Maiah Manser, known for blending fantasy-inspired soundscapes with haunting, ethereal vocals, LA-based, multi-GRAMMY Award winning/69x RIAA Platinum mastering engineer Emerson Mancini and Canadian-Japanese guitarist/singer-songwriter and former member of JUNO/Polaris nominated group YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN, Hiroki Tanaka.
