Bravo Niagara - Hayato Sumino's Canadian Solo Debut at Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, 6 Garamond Ct., Toronto
Canadian Solo Debut! Hayato Sumino was a semi-finalist at the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. In addition to performing concerts in Japan and abroad, he also writes, arranges, and performs his own music under the name of “Cateen” on YouTube, with over 1.2 million subscribers and 150 million views (and counting)! Sumino’s debut at the prestigious Suntory Hall in Tokyo sold out on the day of release. His unique style, a fusion of classical techniques, arrangements, and improvisational skills, has been well received by fans around the world. A CASIO electronic musical instrument ambassador and Steinway artist, he is a truly new type of pianist that pushes the boundaries of classical music.

Presenting 25 artists, duos, and collectives, GTA24 is a project that challenges the notion of individualism and focuses instead on the interconnectedness of individuals within a larger social fabric. The exhibition weaves together 15 newly commissioned artworks and live programmes with existing work made between the 1960s and the present. GTA24 will feature live performances, events, and screenings as central elements of the project. Various dates from March 22 to July 28

Colin Stetson - Toronto Jazz Fest at The Axis Club, 722 College St., Toronto
Colin Stetson was born and raised in Ann Arbor, spent a decade in San Francisco and Brooklyn honing his formidable talents as a horn player, eventually settling in Montreal in 2007. Over the years he has worked extensively, live and in studio, with a wide range of bands and musicians including Tom Waits, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, TV On The Radio, Feist, Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Bill Laswell, Evan Parker, The Chemical Brothers, Animal Collective, Hamid Drake, LCD Soundsystem, The National, Angelique Kidjo, Fink, and David Gilmore. Meanwhile he has developed an utterly unique voice as a soloist, principally on saxophones and clarinets, his intense technical prowess matched by his exhilarating and emotionally gripping skills as a songwriter.
