CANFAR’s “Can You Do Lunch” event raises money for HIV and AIDS
CANFAR‘s fifth annual luncheon, Can You Do Lunch? was attended by business and philanthropic leaders, who joined together in the fight against HIV and AIDS on June 12th at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto.
Hosted by Co-chairs Shawn Hewson and Ruth Promislow, Founders, of Bustle Clothing, and with guest speakers including Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne in conversation with CANFAR National Youth Ambassador Muluba Habanyama. Ryerson journalism student Muluba is HIV+ from birth, having lost both parents to the disease. She chatted with Premier Wynne about government funding and research, and Wynne opened up about her own personal losses of friends during the height of the AIDS crisis. Audience members were then invited to ask questions, from subsidizing PrEP and free medications, to the distribution of medical marijuana.
Can You Do Lunch? was a fundraising and networking opportunity in support of Canadian HIV and AIDS research. Guests were treated to a gourmet lunch and had the opportunity to support HIV and AIDS research through an exclusive silent auction.
