Some of My Most Favourite People
A GALA for Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
Some of My Most Favourite People in the LGBTQ business community are Bruce McDonald (President) and Darrell Schuurman (CEO) of Canadian Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (a special shout out goes to the lovely and always happy Katie Mead, Manager, Supplier Diversity Program at CGLCC). They work very hard to create a positive environment that connects small and medium size businesses in our LGBTQ community, with supportive corporate businesses. Organizations such as CGLCC give our community a voice on the national stage when it comes to business.
So, when I heard that this leading business and networking organization is getting ready for to put together a gala, like the fabulous one they did last year, I called Darrell for a chat.
What got CGLCC initially to think about doing a gala?
This is the CGLCC’s 2nd Annual Black & White Gala. The evening will recognize and honour excellence among Canada’s business leaders who are helping to drive LGBT inclusion and prosperity. As evidenced from last year, the Black & White Gala is a spectacular event. It is an opportunity to celebrate incredible achievements, and meet and network with leaders and professionals from all industry sectors that are championing business, entrepreneurship, and diversity and inclusion. Money raised will provide much needed resources to expand and create new programs to serve entrepreneurs across Canada.
Last year I was in attendance, and it was lovely. Was it the success you anticipated?
Last year’s gala was a huge success. We had over 200 business leaders from across the country out to celebrate LGBT business.
I remember the dessert auction, that was so much fun, wasn’t it?
The dessert auction was a great way to help raise money for programming that supports LGBT entrepreneurs. Last year we had the chef prepare 5 over-the-top desserts, including a baked Alaska, a trifle, and a chocolate tower, that we auctioned off. Toronto City Councillor Joe Cressy was our auctioneer, and the entire room got into the excitement.
Who should plan on attending?
Anyone that is interested in supporting LGBT business community.
Last year’s host was the one and only Gavin Crawford. Any hosts, performers, or other surprises for this year that you can share with us?
We are working on confirming a fantastic host and a performance by a surprise artist, so you just have to wait and see.
Personally I think even if you are not in business and want a classy night out, this is a great event to attend. You can your tickets HERE
