Heading into their sixth year, the Miracle family of Christmas- themed pop-up bars will expand in 2019 to over 100 Miracle and Beachbum Berry Presents: Sippin’ Santa locations. What has become a global phenomenon started as a suggestion from owner Greg Boehm’s mother, who encouraged him to halt construction of his bar Mace in 2014 and transform the unfinished space into a winter wonderland for the few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Miracle on Ninth Street was born, and in the years that followed, industry friends from other cities began reaching out to Boehm and GM Joann Spiegel to see how they could recreate the holiday magic in their own bars—and the rest is history.
This year, from November 25th to December 31st, each Miracle and Sippin’ Santa location will celebrate the season with a festive menu of signature cocktails, décor of lights, garlands, ribbons, and tchotchkes inspired by nostalgic vintage Christmas decorations, and a soundtrack of holiday songs. Joann Spiegel, General Manager, is the mastermind behind the brand’s cocktails and will once again roll out a menu of surprising Christmas concoctions. Expect unique and unusual cocktails that play on classic holiday flavors in playful mugs and glassware, from Snowball Old-Fashioned and Run Run Rudolph, to the Christmapolitan and now classic Yippie Ki Yay Mother F****r!, created by mixologist Nico de Soto.
Fueled by the success of cornerstone locations in New York City and New Orleans, Sippin Santa has dramatically expanded with partner and Tiki expert Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, described as one of Imbibe magazine’s “25 most Influential Cocktail Personalities of the Past Century.” Sippin’ locations will expand from a dozen to over 20 nationwide in 2019, and Beachbum has crafted an updated menu of Tiki-themed holiday cocktails, including the Christmas Eve of Destruction and Papa Noel. Beachbum Berry is the author of six books on vintage Tiki drinks and cuisine, as well as owner of Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29 in New Orleans. His original cocktail recipes have been printed in publications around the world and he has spent years lecturing about Tiki drinks across the U.S., Europe, and Latin America.
New for 2019, Miracle will invite all locations around the world to host popular “Ugly Sweater” parties on Monday, December 2nd, 2019, with the goal of having the largest combined ugly sweater gathering the world has ever seen. Guests are encouraged to don their best (i.e. tackiest) garb and join in the revelry of the Christmas season at their neighborhood Miracle location and of course, post the ugly sweater evidence on social media. Guests at both Miracle and Sippin’ Santa will also see brand new intricate and holiday themed Cocktail Kingdom® custom glassware that will be available for purchase exclusively at many locations during the duration of the pop-ups, making it the gift that keeps on giving.
“In our sixth year, we’re excited to keep making Miracle better year after year while keeping our true love for the holiday season alive,” says Greg Boehm, owner and creator of Miracle. “We offer a true experience for our guests as soon as they walk through the doors. Our partners across the U.S. and world are all dedicated to delivering exceptional visits with quality cocktails. “We’re thrilled to see our partnership with Jeff ‘Beachbum’ Berry expand in 2019 as well as we continue to offer the tiki cocktail experience to new cities across the country.”
Spiegel oversees the cocktail creation and has continued to spearhead the process yearly to create the much buzzed about roster of Christmas concoctions served at all Miracle locations, from favorites such as the Snowball Old Fashioned (Caramelized Pecan Bourbon, Spiced Molasses Syrup, Wormwood Bitters) to newcomers including Ginger Bread Flip (Rye Whiskey, Gingerbread Syrup, Tiki Bitters, Whole Egg, Ginger Snap Cookie Crumbs).
Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, described as one of Imbibe magazine’s “25 most influential Cocktail Personalities of the Past Century”, alongside award-winning bartender Brad Smith, has created tiki holiday-themed cocktails that will be center stage at all Sippin Santa locations. This year’s roster includes drinks like the Kris Kringle Colada (Dark Jamaican Rum, Amaro, Allspice, Lime & Pineapple Juice and Cream of Coconut) and Jingle Bowl (Jamaican & Demerara Rums, Apple Brandy, Amaro, Lemon, Orange and Pineapple Juice, Maple and Cinnamon Syrup and Angostura Bitters). Sippin’ Santa will pop-up in none other than Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29 in New Orleans, in addition to locations in Chicago, Sacramento, Washington D.C., Detroit, and at Boilermaker in New York City, the original outpost for the concept.
