This Pride Bud Light is taking the initiative of celebrating coming out stories as part of Pride Weekend. theBUZZ had a chat with the lovely Erin Brockobic who is part of that celebration.

Tell us, who is Erin Brockobic?

Erin Brockobic is the Eastern European business lady of the 80s. She loves big shoulder pads, she loves even bigger hair, and she loves hosting a show. If you come to an Erin Brockobic show, you are getting stand-up comedy, political satire and one heck of a fun time.

Why are you excited about Pride weekend coming up?

I am excited about enjoying some events outdoors, as well as some great virtual events being organized. If you’re in Toronto I suggest taking advantage of the free water taxi rides to Hanlan’s Point Beach that Bud Light is running all weekend long, and it’s a great way to get out of the city and connect with my community outdoors. You can also check out Pride Toronto’s amazing line-up of virtual events here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CQgdZggJf5G/.

What would you share with us regarding your coming out experience?

I think the most important thing I can share about my coming out experience is the importance of self-respect and dignity. When I came out, once as gay and once as a drag queen, I of course was met with some judgement from my friends and loved ones, but it was almost like being honest about who I am shielded me from their judgements. Obviously have a support system in place is important, but there is no better confidence boost than living authentically and genuinely as yourself.

What are you working on these days, what new and exciting projects and events?

Obviously, I am very excited about my collaboration with Bud Light and being able to celebrate people’s coming out stories. Bud Light is a long time supporter of Pride and this year, given there is no parade they’re taking things online! Canadians can visit Budlight.ca/pride to nominate a member of the LGBTQ+ community for a fun celebration! From digital billboard messages to drag queen shoutouts, it’s a fun and unique way Bud Light is celebrating coming out stories in honour of Pride! I have also recently started streaming on Twitch where I get to play video games in and out of drag. It’s such a fun way to connect with my audience and to build new connections with other LGBTQ+ people I would have never met otherwise. I’m also working on building a professional workshop/presentation on the entrepreneurship of drag which I am framing like a TedTalk. And most importantly, I am excited to get back to live shows, even if they’re just outside and with limited capacity.

Check out Erin’s video message and Happy Pride 🙂
