Dare – a teen triangle of discovery, starring queer icons Sandra Bernhard and Alan Cumming
The 10th Anniversary re-release of DARE, an iconic high school drama centered around three senior student – an aspiring actress, her misfit best friend, and a loner rich boy – who become engaged in an intimate and complicated relationship. It’s a roller coaster of emotion, betrayal, heartbreak, and sexual experimentation starring newcomers Emmy Rossum, Zach Gilford, Ashley Springer, and Rooney Mara, along with seasoned veterans Sandra Bernhard, Ana Gasteyer, and Alan Cumming.
Available from Strand Releasing. The film was based on a short-film project, also directed by Adam Salky and written by David Brind, which can be seen below. As well, The Dare Project is a follow up sequel that takes places 15 years later, and can be viewed here.
Fifteen years after Adam and David first came together to create “Dare,” the original team from the short are all getting back in the pool. David has written a continuation of Ben and Johnny’s story, inspired by images of the two boys meeting years later, as grown men, for the first time since high school. Set in Los Angeles, this new short will surprise you, provoke you, maybe make you feel a little uncomfortable, and very definitely take you into some new terrain.
