In honour of the legacy, triumphs and challenges of the LGBTQIA+ community, Discovery+, the definitive non-fiction, real life subscription streaming service from Discovery, Inc., has announced the addition of the “Always Proud” content hub to the service. The year-round, regularly updated hub celebrates what it means to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community, offering meaningful stories that showcase the joy and creativity of self-expression through authentic and relatable moments.  In addition, three new original series “Trixie Motel,” “Generation Drag” and “The Book of Queer” will all premiere during June in celebration of Pride Month.

  • Generation Drag (premieres Wednesday, June 1, binge): Generation Drag follows five teen and tween  drag performers from across the USA as they prep for Dragutante, a first-of-its-kind drag ball event for teens and tweens. In this inspiring, six-part documentary series, Jameson, Noah, Vinny, Bailey and Nabela juggle the pressures of being a teenager and the pursuit of drag greatness.  Between the glitz and glam, ups and downs, and nerve-rattling stakes, their parents and “drag moms” guide them along the tumultuous journey to the ultimate Dragutante stage located in Denver, CO.  This heartwarming celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community gives us an intimate look into the lives of these fabulous teens, tweens and their families.

  • Trixie Motel (launches Friday, June 3 with two episodes, and then episodes  dropping weekly): Drag Queen superstar Trixie Mattel, who has taken the world by storm with her outrageous sense of humor and vivacious, retro-kitschy style, is venturing into uncharted waters in the new discovery+ series, Trixie Motel.  The eight-episode series follows Trixie and  her partner and property co-owner, David Silver,as they tackle the massive overhaul of a ramshackle mid-century motel in Palm Springs, California.  The massive renovation includes the pool area, bar and seven uniquely themed motel rooms,  all to create the ultimate drag paradise.  To help out with the epic undertaking, Trixie secures “free labor” from friends, including hospitality mogul Lisa Vanderpump, comedian Nicole Byer, actor and musician Zooey Deschanel, Property Brother Jonathan Scott, and drag queen/partner in crime Katya. More famous friends lend a hand during the season, including award-winning actor Leslie Jordan, musician and model Iggy Azalea, actor and television host Jonathan Bennett, and musician Belinda Carlisle.

  • The Book of Queer (launches June 2, episodes dropping weekly)  A five-episode docu-series highlighting some of history’s most fabulous “queeroes,” whose stories and contributions have been erased, marginalized or straightwashed throughout the years. The series, narrated by Margaret Cho (“The Flight Attendant,” “Fire Island”),  Dominique Jackson (“Pose”), Leslie Jordan (“American Horror Story,” “Will & Grace”), Ross Mathews (“The Drew Barrymore Show” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race”), and Alex Newell (“Glee”)- will pull back the curtain and take a deep dive telling the LGBTQIA+ story of the past, through interviews with revered queer historians and experts who are as colorful as the rainbow flag.   Blending comedy with social impact, The Book of Queer features witty recreations and original music videos to bring each of the stories to life with a modern tone. Every topic has been rigorously researched, fact checked and supervised by Executive Producer and queer historian, Eric Cervini, a 2021 Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Featured content in discovery+’s “Always Proud” hub will showcase the varied stories within the LGBTQIA+ community.  Among those included in the hub are the celebrated original 2003 series “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” “The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project,” along with the award-winning “I Am Jazz,” all which highlight queer friends and allies, the transgender community, drag queens and culture, relationships and lifestyle.
